introduction valhalla-vania.com on facebook valhalla-vania-brush on deviantart

Through the years, I have created hundreds of brushes, which are free for you to use. There are no user restrictions, as long as you credit me by providing a link to valhalla-vania.com when you upload a work that has been made with the help of my brushes. This way, others can find the brushes too. I do not allow my brushes to be redistributed, so don't offer them for download on another site. Because I receive so many help requests for photoshop, I've also created some basic photoshop tuturorials. I hope you'll enjoy!

For the lay-out of this site, I have used several brushes (the tree, hummingbird and bat in the header, and the bat in the comment box) that were created by French illustrator Nicolas Gouny aka Ploop26. Not only has he created some of my favorite brushes, he also makes lovely illustrations.

The owl that can be used to navigate back to the top of the site is a hooty owl brush created by Catherine at Pumpkinandposies.com.

BRUSHES INFO

What brushes do you provide?
I offer photoshop brushes that were made in PS 7.0 and can be used only in Photoshop.

Are your brushes free to use?
Yes they are.

What are photoshop brushes?
Photoshop brushes can either be used to draw or to stamp with. If you are a photo manipulator, brushes are great tools to give your work that little extra touch.

How can I download your brushes?
Simply click on the 'download' link and the download will start. you are then asked to store them somewhere on the computer. My advice is to create a seperate brushes directory in which you install all your brush sets, so you can easily find them. After the download is finished, you need to unzip or unrar the brush set, and it will appear in abr format (brush format) in the same directory.

How do I use your brushes?
As brushes are in abr format, they can only be used in photoshop. So open photoshop, select the brush tool, and select the brushes palette at the top of the screen. A small menu will open. Click on the arrow pointing to the left (at the top right of the menu) and hit the 'load brushes' button. Now you can browse your harddisc for the folder in which you stored your brushes. Select the brush set and the brush set will appear in the brushes palette. Now make sure the brush tool stays selected, open a new canvas and you can start drawing.

How to load brushes

Can I make my own brushes?
Yes you can; it's quite easy. Start by opening a new white canvas and selecting the brush tool. Put the mode to grayscale and just start experimenting! you can draw, paste, stamp, whatever you like, until you are satisfied with the result of your brush. Then hit 'edit' 'define brush', give the brush a name et voila, your brush is ready!

After the brush has been created, it will appear in your brushes palette. If you want to make brush sets of your own, I advise you to first select the custom 'thick heavy brushes' as there are only a few of them. Erase them by rightclicking and selecting delete, and make your own brushes the way I just mentioned. This way, you will be able to make a new, personal brush set.

Can you recommend me some other brush sites?
Some sites that provide excellent brushes:

asunder, ploop26 and Pumpkinsandposies.com.
